You’re at a networking event and the host starts the meeting by saying, “Let’s go around the table and introduce ourselves. Tell us what you do and who your ideal client is so we can get to know you and share referrals”.
You’ve been in that exact situation, haven’t you?
And if you’re look most people you get nervous because you have no idea what to say in a way that’s compelling, clear and concise.
So you ramble on as people’s eyes glaze over and you mentally kick yourself. Ugh!
But of course, everyone is polite so they listen and smile and nod. How nice – but of absolutely no use to you whatsoever.
Now I want you to picture this…
Your prospective client is searching online for a specific problem they want help with, and they come across your website. Yeah!
You can’t see them so there’s no need for them to be polite. If your message doesn’t speak to them directly – bam – off they go in 7 seconds or less.
Two different scenarios, but in each case your success in connecting with a prospective client (or referral partner) depends on your ability to clearly express what you do in a way that excites people. That leaves them wanting to know more about you and how you can help them.
That’s the power of your message.
And yes, we’re all tired of the old “elevator speech” thing, and you don’t need to sound like a robot. But you do need to be able to clearly and concisely explain what you do so your ideal clients are inspired to connect with you.
Without that, people will either nod politely or simply click away.
So how do you create a client attracting message?
It all starts by being crystal clear on: WHO you help, WHAT you help them with and WHY people should work with you.
Those 3 W’s are what I call, “solving the Niche Puzzle”.
That clarity will allow you to create your Marketing Message (and focus your marketing) so people will instantly understand your value and how it applies to them.
The problem is there are tons of people who do what you do.
So if you just come at it in this linear/logical/left brained way, you’ll end up sounding like everyone else.
You need to add your own secret sauce to your message. You need to let people into the world of who you really are and what you stand for in your business.
And the way you do this is by creating your “Core Message” and infusing it in your Marketing Message.
That Core Message is your unique stand — it’s the big idea you want to share with the world. It’s the “why” behind your business. And it’s completely unique to you.
Now comes the really juicy part…
When you combine your Core Message with your Marketing Message, you create a truly Magnetic Message — that connects with the hearts and minds of your ideal clients.
That heart-mind connection is so important — it’s what lets you attract clients who don’t just value what you do, but who you are…and are excited to work with YOU.
