Testimonials are an important part of establishing your credibility. They give your prospective clients a sneak peek of what it would be like to work with you. They illustrate not only the results you helped them achieve, but an idea of who you are as a person and what it’s like to work with you.
Many people hesitate to ask their clients for testimonials because they don’t want to inconvenience them. The key is to make it as easy as possible for your clients, and an easy way to do that is to send them a template so they can just fill in the blanks.
Here is a Client Testimonial Template you can send to your favorite clients:
- What were you struggling with when when we first started working together?
- What was the solution? What did we do together?
- What were the results you achieved through our work together? (be as specific and measurable as possible)
- What was your experience like working with me? (what made this experience most special and valuable for you)
- How do you feel about the end result?
They can just reply in bulleted form and you can finesse the testimonial from there. Be sure to ask their permission to do so and send them a copy of what you’ve created for their final approval.
Be sure to let your clients know that you appreciate their feedback. And remind them that in you sharing their testimonial, they will gain added exposure as well. I’ve had people contact me just based on testimonials I’ve provided for other coaches.
Once you get your testimonials, you want to use them effectively. One of my favorite ways to use testimonials is to include them in presentations. I generally show the testimonial but describe it as a case study. This takes the focus off of me and puts it on the client.
You also want to use your testimonials on your website, on your opt-in page and on your sales page. Sprinkle them throughout your website as people are more likely to notice them there than to click on the testimonial page of your website.
On a personal note, I can tell you that I typically have a hard time accepting compliments. Testimonials are a great way to showcase my expertise and my commitment to my clients without having to make me blush too much.
Please leave your thoughts and comments below. And if you have any kind words to say, I invite you to do so (I couldn’t resist throwing that in – just for fun:)
