What can a 7 year old skier ย teach us as solopreneurs? Watch this quick (and embarrassing video) about how you can karate chop your way to success!
I’m sharing my embarrassing face with you here publicly because this message is very important. Please take a moment to leave your thoughts below. Thanks!
Susan says
Oh, Cindy! Try dabbing that burn with some good cider vinegar. Love your smile. And it sounds like you had a ball. (What a sport!)
Cindy says
Thank you Susan! I am going to the health food store tonight. My wonderful colleague Deborah suggested aloe. Any other thoughts please do share! Thank you:)

Hi Cindy! Great message that we fall down, but it’s the getting up and dusting ourselves off that really matters. I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating that I love your authenticity, your naturalness, and your transparency. It’s refreshing to receive notes from someone who has been where I am, have traveled a bit further, and still ‘exposes’ yourself the way you do (tee hee). Thanks again for the tip!
Cindy says
Thank you Reba. I really appreciate you! I have to say that one of my greatest “talents” is my ability to laugh at myself. I do it all the time at home – it just makes life more fun. I’m not necessarily putting myself down, just appreciating my own foibles.
Case in point. My kids were teasing my yesterday because I have such a bad sense of direction. My husband calls me “geographically challenged”, but I actually have fun with it. In fact, when I’m driving I sometimes take a different route which will invariably make me get lost. But it’s kind of fun to get lost and figure out how to get somewhere. I get to see and experience new things and be challenged. That’s way more fun that taking the same predictable route each time. Will I make mistakes along the way? You bet. Will I have more fun getting there? Absolutely!
In terms of how that applies to business….I do listen to my mentors and benefit from their experience and wisdom. But I also know that I can’t apply a cookie cutter approach and just do whatever others are doing. I need to learn my own lessons along the way.
Just my perspective:)

Hey Cindy,
I love how your son looked at what he was doing right and did more of that.
How invincible we would be if we could have that mindset more often.
So, tonight I’m asking myself “how can I bring more fun and energy into what I’m doing and share that with others?”
Thanks for sharing, raccoon eyes and all ๐
Cindy says
Thank you Yolanda! I love the challenge you’ve given yourself. You’re a real giver – as was evidenced on today’s call. Thank you for all that you do!

Hi Cindy,
What an awesome and FUN message! It is so true, wisdom “out of mouths of babies” as they say. This brings back memories of downhill ski lessons I took only 10 months after I had re-learned how to walk after my terrible car accident and brain injury in 1988. I was only snowplowing but from the top of the mountain.
Now, I have to learn to transfer that same courage, determination and perserverance to starting a new business Thanks for reminding me.
I love your red face as it makes your teeth look SO WHITE and your smile absolutely amazing!
Take care,
Heather
Cindy says
Wow Heather – you are so inspiring. If you can learn how to walk again you can absolutely take that courage and perseverance and apply it to your business. I have total faith in you! And thanks for the comment about my shiny white teeth:)

Your Sunny example, your Son’s reaction, and your ‘taking this in stride’ all echo the message of Spring: The option to ‘focus on what’s evolving, what fits, & what’s funny in all of this’ is available to us during challenging times as ‘well’.
Thanks for your example & your recent helpful advice.
Cindy says
You’re very welcome Jay – I like the message of Spring and new opportunities. Thanks for sharing!

Hi, Cindy,
You know, what I got from your video is how creative and caring you are. You creatively saw the relevance of your child’s spontaneous solution to a momentary mistake and cared enough to turn it into a lesson to inspire and instruct us adult entrepreneurs. But what struck me most of all was your genuineness. The whole while I felt I was listening to a friend. And we’ve never even met. I really liked that.
Thank you.
Cindy says
Thank you so much David. Your comment really touched me. I think we all take lessons from our lives. My children are a never ending source of lessons for me. And taking that little mental health break on the ski hill was just what I needed to see that with even more clarity. Thanks for sharing!
Cynthia says
I just got back from Praise practice at church. Always thought I should WAIT until I was better at singing to be in a praise duo…..opportunity presented itself and I went in and through the UNCOMFORTABLE and not willing to wait for the perfection, we just need to be willing and ready. LOOK for the opportunities. Your message was very fitting. Thanks for the encouragement and confirmation. ROCK ON! Cynthia
Cindy says
Good for you Cynthia! I love that. As one of my mentors taught me, “done is better than perfect”. And I’m sure you sounded great!!
Ana says
Thanks for sharing this great advise: having fun while learning. I love the way you say what your son said: “I only fell once, I can do it, I can do it”. You are always so cheering!
Hopefully, we soon will be able to say “I only fell x times, I can do anything”
Thank you again.
Cindy says
Thank you Ana! And yes, you can do it!
Andrea Feinberg says
Well said, Cindy – both from Noah and from you for seeing the application in his comments for us all; now will you please show us that karate chop ski technique again? ๐
Cindy says
LOL – with pleasure Andrea – I have a lot of karate chopping experience – haya!
Nancy says
I’m so glad I took 2 minutes and 52 seconds to view your video!
I have been feeling bogged down and discouraged with so much to learn right now. I questioned if I should take the time to view your video, but I’m so glad I did. It was the pick-me-up I needed, which is what you do really well.
I appreciate your personable presentations and your training style. Thanks!
I’m gonna go and have myself some fun learning right now ๐
Cindy says
I’m so glad you did Nancy! I’m feeling the same way today with a huge to do list and your comment gave me the boost I needed. Thank you!

Hi Cindy,
What a great message! Your son is very smart and I love that age when they have no fears and a lot of confidence. Kids are a great inspiration to keep us grounded sometimes.
Hope your sunburn is getting better. Looks like you had a great time.
Cindy
Cindy says
Thanks Cindy! Yes, we had a blast. It was so nice to be unplugged for 3 days and be with the family outside and playing in the snow! I will keep that vision of Noah in my mind the next time I fall on my butt:)
Sharon Gibson says
Cindy, how courageous of you to take this video and share your story. Great message about falling down and getting back up again.
Like someone else said, I love the way you drew from your life experience to share your story. This is what I do a lot of times in my writing and teaching. It keeps the truths you want to share, fresh, personal and relevant.
So funny how you take different routes and allow yourself to get lost just to break up the routine. A sign of a creative person. I think you are quite charming. ๐
Cindy says
Thank you Sharon! I appreciate you very much:)
I’m still mastering this skill although if I just tell myself to be myself and not put on any airs or false pretenses, it seems to flow quite naturally. And as for the writing, I just remember to write like a speak. I had to unlearn all those horrid years of corporate writing. In fact, it’s funny because I recently read a report I had written in the corporate world and it was such gobbleygook I can’t believe I ever wrote it! I appreciate your support!
