15 Reasons To Get a Facebook Page

by Cindy Schulson 4 Comments

I know you’re familiar with Facebook, and perhaps you’ve heard of the Facebook Fan Page. It is a huge trend for companies and solo entrepreneurs.

A fan page on Facebook is like a mini-site for your business. It is different from a Facebook profile. While your Facebook profile represents you as a person, your fan page represents your business.

I created my Facebook Page and within one week had one new client as a direct result and several new people added to my list!

Here are 15 reasons you should consider creating a Facebook fan page to help you market your business and connect with your target market.

  1. There isn’t a limit to the number of fans you can have.
  2. It’s free.
  3. It gives you a way to connect with your target market.
  4. It allows you to get instant feedback from your target market
  5. You can send “updates” to fans whenever you want.
  6. You can promote events.
  7. You can customize the design using FBML, Facebook’s version of HTML.
  8. You can easily promote it with tools provided by Facebook.
  9. The Facebook Pages Insights analytics tool gives you useful information about your fans and their interactions.
  10. You can build a real community for your clients and prospects.
  11. It’s another funnel to your website.
  12. You can add unlimited photos and videos.
  13. It’s an SEO boost. Facebook is currently the second most popular site on the Web
  14. A fan page can be found by internet search engines (but a profile page or group can’t).
  15. When someone joins a Fan page, it’s published in their News feed for all their friends to read (unless they have turned this off). It makes someone joining your Fan page somewhat viral.

If you have any questions about how or why to create a Facebook page, just let me know by leaving you questions and/or comments below.  Thanks!

    Hi Cindy,

I was wondering if number 7 You can customize the design using FBML, Facebook’s version of HTML can still be done. I thought I read that Facebook was doing away with FBML and switching to iFrames.

    Thanks,

    Terri

Hi Terri – great question. I’m not a techie, but I did a quick Google search and found the following:

“Last year, Facebook announced its plan to deprecate FBML as a Facebook page administration platform over time. This March, it followed up this statement with the announcement of a full transition to iFrames, phasing out FBML. Since March, page admins have not been able to create any new FBML apps, but apps which were already in existence remained functional until the deprecation was scheduled to begin. Facebook announced at f8 the official deprecation date of all FBML endpoints: June 1, 2012. This is the date when any remaining FBML modules inside of Facebook will cease to function. ”

Thanks for a great question and the reminder to get my Facebook page updated into iframes!

Hi Cindy, I have two different businesses and I would like to know if it is a good option or not to open two different pages under my name. Could be confusing for people to find two different businesses under the same person?
    Thank you

      Hi Dalia,
I don’t know if the businesses are related or not, but I would be inclined to have each Facebook Page have the name of your business vs. your name. If one is more tied to you as a personal brand, you can include your name for that one.
      I hope that helps!
